Family mediation

When a family breaks apart, the conflict doesn't have to

Psychologically informed family mediation, including arrangements for pets, from a WTA mediator with the FMA.

What mediation is, and isn't

The legal route settles what is owned. It rarely settles what is happening.

When a relationship ends or a family fractures, litigation deals with who gets what. It rarely deals with what is actually going on between the people involved.

Mediation is a structured, neutral process that lets both parties communicate clearly, reduce conflict and reach agreements that hold, without the escalation, cost and damage of court.

Most mediators are trained in process. I am also a psychologist with over a decade of clinical experience in attachment, relational dynamics and family systems work. That changes what happens in the room. I understand why people get stuck, not only that they are stuck.

Who this is for

Three situations this is built for

Separating or divorcing couples

Co-parenting arrangements, communication structures and shared decisions about children, without going back to solicitors every time something shifts.

Families in conflict

Where communication has broken down between parents, siblings or across generations, and a structured, neutral process is what's needed.

Disputes involving pets

Pets are family. Where a pet lives, who is responsible for their care and how shared arrangements work are a real source of conflict, and rarely handled well by legal processes alone.

How it works

Three stages, and you only book the first

1The MIAM A short individual meeting with each of you separately. I understand your position and confirm whether mediation is the right route. If it isn't, I'll tell you.
2Joint sessions If both parties want to proceed. Structured, time-limited and focused on reaching agreements that work. Online or in person.
3The Memorandum A written summary of what was agreed, prepared at the close of the process. Your solicitors can make it binding if you want that.
MIAMIndividual meeting, approximately 45–60 minutes, report included. Deducted from your first joint session.£175 per person
Joint mediation sessionTwo hours, including a record of the session and routine follow-up.£250 per person
Memorandum of UnderstandingA written summary of the agreements reached, provided at the close.£150 per person

The MIAM is the only part you book yourself. Joint sessions and the Memorandum are arranged afterwards, and I send a secure payment link with the invoice.

Book a MIAM · £175

Most cases resolve within two to three joint sessions — typically well under £1,000 per person in total.

Significantly less than the cost of legal proceedings, and considerably faster.
Accreditation status

Mediation is currently offered under supervised practice, as part of final FMA accreditation requirements.

Safety and suitability

The MIAM includes checking whether mediation is safe and appropriate for your situation. Where it isn't, mediation does not go ahead and I will explain why and where to go instead.

Questions people actually ask

Before you book

Do we have to be in the same room? No. Shuttle mediation, where you are in separate rooms and I move between you, is common and often better early on.
Is it confidential? Yes, with the usual exceptions where there is a risk of harm. I explain exactly how that works in your MIAM.
Is what we agree legally binding? The Memorandum of Understanding is not a court order. It records what you agreed, and your solicitors can convert it into something binding if that's what you want.
How long does it take? Most cases settle in two to three joint sessions. Compare that with months of correspondence.
What if only one of us wants to do this? Book the MIAM anyway. Part of my job is contacting the other party and explaining the process. Plenty of people who refuse initially agree once they understand what it involves.
Do you work online? Yes, and in person. I work between Spain and the UK, in English, Spanish and Italian.
What if mediation doesn't work? Then you have lost a MIAM fee and gained a much clearer picture of the disagreement. Nothing said in mediation can be used against you afterwards, and the court route remains open.

Referring a client?

Email me about a referral and I'll send referral details and current availability. I work with family, civil and community matters, online and in person, between Spain and the UK.

Not a family matter? I also handle civil and commercial disputes and community of owners disputes in Spain.

Ready to take the first step

If family conflict is affecting your life, this is where it changes

The first conversation is straightforward and without obligation. If mediation is not right for your situation, I will tell you that.
