This is the part training leaves out
You're trained to manage the process. Not what it does to you.
Built for family and civil mediators, solicitors, barristers and anyone else who sits in the middle of other people's conflict. By the end of it you will be able to:
- Recognise transference and countertransference while it is happening, not on the drive home
- Tell your own material apart from your client's, and stay on your ground when someone is working hard to move you
- Use bracketing and The One Thing in the moment, not afterwards
- Notice the signs of vicarious trauma and secondary stress in yourself, and know when to take something to supervision
- Leave the session in the room rather than in your evening
After the live workshop
What practitioners said
His session was such a refreshing approach, and there were several insights that I know will stay with me for some time.
I have already used some of the learning from Massimo. It was certainly insightful and beneficial.
Unlike anything I have ever been to before, and will really help me going forward.
The programme
Four parts
Built from a live workshop and recorded so you can take it at your own pace.
Part one
The Human in the Room
Transference, countertransference and the neutrality myth — why staying neutral is harder than it sounds, and what to do instead. Bracketing, The One Thing, and the three channels of The Living Instrument.
Part two
In the Room
Three practitioners pulled off their ground, and what happened to them. Then it is your turn: read the case file as Richard's mediator or his solicitor, take the chair while he talks to you on screen, and take apart what happened in you — not only what you said.
Part three
Being Kinder to Yourself
Where the weight of this work goes. The difference between burnout, vicarious trauma and secondary traumatic stress, three things that actually help, and two pieces of writing that are just for you.
Part four
Your CPD certificate
Send in page 15 of your workbook: three key words and three short reflections. I read every submission myself, and your certificate for 4 CPD hours follows within five working days.
Nice to meet you
I'm Dr Massimo Stocchi-Fontana
Psychologist, clinical sexologist, and family and civil mediator, working between the UK and Spain. For years I have sat with people in conflict and trained the professionals who do the same.
I built this programme from a live workshop, where the same thing came up again and again: skilled, experienced people who are very good at the process, and who have never been given permission to talk about what the process does to them. This is that permission, with the tools to go with it.

Questions
Will my professional body accept it?
You'll receive a certificate for 4 CPD hours. Solicitors in England and Wales can record it towards their continuing competence, and most mediation and professional bodies accept structured learning with evidence of reflection. If you're unsure, check your own body's rules.
How long do I have access?
As long as the programme exists. There's no deadline to finish.
I'm not a mediator or a lawyer. Is it for me?
If you work with people in conflict or distress — HR, social work, advice work, coaching — most of it will apply. The roleplay is written for a mediator or solicitor.
Can I share it with a colleague?
Yes. Your certificate email includes a link that gives colleagues 20% off. For a team of five or more, get in touch about a group rate.
Is this therapy?
No. It's professional training. If it brings something up for you, take it to supervision or to your own therapist.
